Transportation

To provide people in Burlingame with alternatives to private automobiles, I would support several key transportation projects:

Enhanced Public Transit Options

Expanding and improving public transit services, such as SamTrans buses and Caltrain, is essential. This includes increasing service frequency, extending operating hours, and improving connections between different transit modes to make public transport more convenient and accessible. Building the Broadway grade separation will eliminate gridlock and improve safety at this dangerous intersection.

Bicycle and Micromobility Infrastructure Improvements

Burlingame has already invested in some dedicated bike lanes and currently has a bike sharing program to encourage cycling as a viable alternative. Residents are concerned about the hazards caused by speeding electric bikes, skateboards, etc., and the City Council is considering new regulations aimed at making micromobility safer. I support more education in schools and the community, warnings and then fines for those who endanger others by speeding or themselves by not wearing a helmet, as the law requires.

Pedestrian-Friendly Initiatives

Improving pedestrian infrastructure can make walking a more attractive option. This includes expanding sidewalks in commercial areas to accommodate more foot traffic and installing more crosswalks and pedestrian signals to improve safety.

Multimodal Transportation Network

Developing a comprehensive multimodal network that integrates various transportation modes can facilitate easier transitions between them. This includes expanding free shuttle services that connect key destinations and transit hubs, similar to the existing Burlingame Trolley and Bayside shuttles and

implementing programs that promote carpooling, vanpooling, and other shared mobility options.

Traffic Calming Measures

Implementing traffic calming measures in residential areas can enhance safety and encourage walking and biking. This could involve installing more speed bumps to slow down traffic and improve safety for non-motorized users and developing programs to address traffic issues in local neighborhoods, making them safer for pedestrians and cyclists.By supporting these transportation projects, Burlingame can create a more sustainable and accessible environment that encourages residents to choose alternatives to private automobiles.
