Transportation Optimization: Alleviating Traffic Congestion and Enhancing Safety for Burlingame Drivers and Pedestrians
- The most notorious traffic congestion in Burlingame is at the railroad crossing on Broadway, a major gateway to the city. To improve commutes, I will fix traffic congestion on California Drive. I will work with traffic experts and city staff to implement context-sensitive design to address traffic congestion. I will support the grade separation project, a new initiative that allows for separate rail and road traffic, improving safety and reducing congestion.
- For Parking: We face parking issues in our city especially in downtown area. I will work with city staff to install sensors and digital signage to guide drivers to open spaces, reducing search traffic. Additionally, investing in smart traffic management systems will enhance efficiency and lower costs for the city.
- Based on listening to our residents living on Rosedale, Dufferin and other neighborhoods experiencing issues with drivers going at high speed. To alleviate this issue I will work with the city to install dynamic Speed Display Signs, which use radar to detect and display vehicle speeds. More

Support the Vision Zero Grant to:
-
Eliminate all traffic-related deaths in the city through a preventative approach that designs streets to anticipate driver behavior. (not sure you can ever “eliminate” all traffic-related injuries or deaths)
-
Address the specific dangers faced by vulnerable road users like students, seniors, people with disabilities, and low-income communities.
-
Revitalize Broadway shopping district but continue to maintain its small-town charm
- I will collaborate with the Business Improvement District for cohesive strategies to enhance pedestrian-friendliness through improved sidewalks, seating, and install functional street furniture and better lighting and increased foot/bike patrols.
- Introduce more foot and bike patrol officers to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
- I will organize and promote regular events like street fairs and art walks to bring people to the district and showcase its beauty.
- I will create volunteer programs for community clean-up days and partner with the beautification Commission to foster a sense of ownership among residents and businesses.
- I will advocate offering incentives or grants for businesses to upgrade their storefronts. This was done in one of the districts in Los Angeles “the Re-Imagine Broadway initiative.More
Preserve our "City of Trees" and Burlingame’s character while promoting sustainable development and climate action.
- Residents are facing increasing utility and service costs, which can strain household budgets and city resources.
- Implement efficiency measures to reduce operational costs, such as investing in energy-efficient infrastructure. Engage in community outreach to educate residents on cost-saving practices. Promote electric buildings, EV charging and consider dual plumbing in buildings.
-
Collaborate with Burlingame Community for Education (BCE) and our school district to ensure our schools are well-funded, and continue to enrich our children's lives through premium extracurricular activities and safe routes to school.
-
Preserve the natural beauty of our community, by ensuring new construction adheres to design guidelines that compliment Burlingame’s existing character.
-
Safeguard the city’s green spaces by upholding actionable environmental policies. More
-
Implement Intergenerational platforms and resources to address mental health concerns in our seniors and youth
- Our youth are the future of Burlingame, and they deserve every opportunity to thrive
- Our seniors, the pillars of wisdom and experience, deserve our support in navigating the complexities of modern life, especially in the face of scams and fraudsters.
- I will work with the Park and Rec Community Centers to offer Intergenerational Programs.
- Offer programs like mentoring, skill-sharing workshops, and collaborative projects that encourage interaction between generations. Establish spaces where seniors and youth can interact regularly through structured activities.
- Set up programs where tech-savvy youth teach seniors digital skills. (using tic-toc, Instagram, email, Facebook)
- This can help reduce social isolation in seniors and provide youth with valuable teaching experience. It will address loneliness in Seniors and provide both groups with social support and a sense of purpose and community engagement for both groups
- This will help preserve cultural heritage while fostering understanding between generations.
